On December 11, 2025 Acting Director of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Shevchenko and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Shandong University of Science and Technology (Qingdao, Shandong Province, P.R. China) Junsong Wang signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which will mark the beginning of a collaboration between scientists from the two scientific organizations on joint study of the World Ocean.

The parties have already discussed promising research areas starting next year.
